Multiple Instances of service

Postby Matt » Fri Mar 23, 2012 6:29 pm

Hi,

I have made my Project not register with Windows Installer by unticking the tick box on the Product Details Tab.

This then allows me to install multiple versions of the Database and Application files. However when I try to install multiple services the newly install service overwrittes the existing service even if they have different names.

Is there anyway around this?

Hi Matt,

Here's a similar thread that addresses this issue. Let us know if it helps.

Hi,

So basicaly I can't Install 2 Services through the services part of advanced installer?

Would I be able to install multiple services using a custom action that calls up a batch script to do the install?

Hi Matt,

As mentioned in the thread, this is unfortunately not supported by Windows Installer.

Would I be able to install multiple services using a custom action that calls up a batch script to do the install?

You can try, but I'm not sure it will work for the same reason. The more elegant solution described by Cosmin in the thread would be to use multiple packages (one for each service) as prerequisites for the main installation.
