AI on MS Team Foundation System Build Server?

Postby Jimmy » Thu Apr 12, 2012 3:46 pm

Hi all

Are there any "best practices" or guidelines existing, how to get AI running on a TFS Build Server?
We intend to integrate the AI Build into the nightly builds.
And: what about licenses? Does the Build Server needs its own license?

Thanks in advance

Hi Timmy,

We don't have a set of guidelines for integrating with different build systems, however the support exists. You can use ourCLI to create command scripts that will call Advanced Installer as you specify, and integrate these scripts in your build process.

Regarding the licenses, for build servers we recommend a floating license, so that any member of your team can connect to the machine and start a build or edit a project in Advanced Installer. Otherwise you will need a license for each developer using Advanced Installer, i.e. starting a build or editing the projects.

If you have any questions let me know.

Hello Bogdan

Thank you very much for your answer, we were able to test this successfully, and found it a usable way to get the package build process seamlessly integrated into our TFS environment.
(Although, it's not very easy to integrate this into the Build Definitions XAML, but that's another story, on another planet...)

Unfortunately, I was not able to found out how many floating license we have to purchase, or what prices this has...
We actually have two enterprise licenses, single, not concurrent, we are two system engineers which are building packages for different purposes, and also for our development
The build Server would be building packages unattended, so I assume one floating should be enough?

Best Regards and many thanks in advance

Hi Jimmy,

Yes, for the unattended build server a floating Enterprise license is enough, the price is of $2999 US, you can start the purchase directly from our website as you would do for a normal Enterprise license.

If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.
