Updater.exe is broken in version 6.0

The Updater app is broken in 6.0. It works fine in version 5.2.2.

I install myApp1.0 and the windows schedule the updater task correctly.

then I run myApp2.0 install and it fails to recreate the [updater.exe] in the program directory
it also fails to recreate the new upater windows task.

Also, the installer is stuck in some weird state.
I have to run a "repair" first, before I can remove the the "myApp2.0" app.

Please advise.

This feature works well in 5.22 but is now broken.

Hi,

This is a bug in Windows Installer and unfortunately we cannot fix it. However, the workaround is to set the "Ensure that this file overwrites any installed target file" option in the "Version" tab of the "Edit File" dialog for the "updater.exe" file.

You can see the "Edit File" dialog by right-clicking the "updater.exe" file and selecting "Properties". You can read about this here:

why does it work with 5.22 then?

if this is a bug windows installer, why does it work with Advanced Installer 5.222 ?

Hi,

Note that this also works with Advanced Installer 6.0 (you can test this on a clean machine), however, when specific circumstances are met this Windows Installer bug is encountered.
This feature works well in 5.22 but is now broken.
Perhaps the software configuration on your machine or elements in the package have changed since it worked in the 5.2.2 version.
