Patch MSP is reinstalling and not updating ?

Hi ,

I have created a Main MSI using the advanced installer.
I have added some custom UI actions to it (Which is not needed during the patch).
Then i have created a Update version of my project (I have added some files).

Using these both the msi i have created a patch msp .

When i was trying to execute the patch project its again going to the Installation dialogue
and not going to the patch welcome dialogue . Can u help me in this regard.

Thanks

Re: Patch MSP is reinstalling and not updating ?

Hi,

This usually happens when the patch target and upgraded images are not configured correctly. In this case the patch tries to perform a major upgrade. Did you receive any warnings or errors when building the patch? If so, the packages don't meet the patch rules. Please note that the User Guide contains a patch tutorial which may help you.

Thanks a Lot cosmin
I have allowed different product code. that is the reason for the problem.
Now its working fine .

I need another help . We need a log file to track milestones in installation
for example " Execute db scripts done " and this can be useful in tracking unsuccessfull installations.
Is there any options available with advanced installer to track those "Events". or How Can we use commandline utilities for an msi file
with the windows installer log .

Hi,

I'm not sure I understand what you need to do. What events do you want to log? Are you referring to custom actions? Also, do you want to write in the log created by Windows Installer?
