Can you translate MSI strings in other languages?

Fri Jun 17, 2005 9:00 am

Hello everybody,

Since the release the 3.0 version of our product, we support generating MSIs in various languages. We would like to offer as many translations as possible "out of the box".

If you think that you have the ability (and interest) to translate the MSI strings into another language, please send me an email to support at advancedinstaller dot com and let us know.

We will gladly give away AI Licenses or Maintenance Plans in exchange!

So far we have the following languages covered:
  • English
  • German
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal)
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Chinese Simplified
  • Chinese Traditional
  • Dutch
  • Danish
  • Norwegian (Bokmal, Nynorsk)
  • Hungarian
  • Polish
  • Bulgarian
  • Catalan
  • Czech
  • Greek
  • Finnish
  • Croatian
  • Indonesian
  • Icelandic
  • Kazakh
  • Korean
  • Slovak
  • Slovenian
  • Albanian
  • Serbian (Cyrillic)
  • Serbian (Latin)
  • Swedish
  • Turkish
  • Ukrainian
  • Russian
Thank you very much,
Cata

Cata,

How much text are we looking at? Roughly how many hours work would be involved?

Regards,

Bruce.

Hi Bruce,

There are about 600 lines (strings) of text to be translated. Most of them pretty short, under 10 words, with a few longer. The UTF-8 XML file for the Spanish or German translation stands at under 65K.

We did the Spanish translation in about 4 hours.

Thanks,
Cata

Hi,
is it already possible to create one installer-MSI including more than one language which can be choosen at the beginning of the installation or might it be possible to create more MSI-Files for the needed languages at one build in a batch?

Hi Lazer,

Yes, it it is possible to create more MSI-Files for the needed languages at one build. After the build, a package for every required language will be generated.

For example you want to build your package in, say, Portuguese and Spanish.

To do this, in the "New Project" dialog select "Spanish". At this time your package will be generated in Spanish.

In order for your package to be created in Portuguese too, go to the "Media" page and select the "Languages" tab. In the "Build Languages" field select "Portuguese".

Now your package will be built in Portuguese too.

Advanced Installer in Polish

Tue Nov 22, 2005 9:47 am

Hi,

I could be interested in translating Advanced Installer to Polish: first of all I am interested in using it, second I need it to talk in Polish. I'm native Polish with 10+ years of experience in software development.

So what do you propose?

Regards,
Oleg Morajko
