The File Version Tab

In this dialog you can specify a file version that will be used during the installation to determine the install and overwrite priority. Note that this version will not affect in any way the file's internal version.

On Install

Ensure that this file overwrites any installed target file

If this option is enabled, the file from your package will overwrite any similar file already present on the target computer. Usually this can be used when performing a downgrade (install a file older than the one already installed) or for non-versioned files which don't overwrite the existing files.

This option is also available for multiple editing of file properties.

File Version

Get from file

The file has the default version, if it has one.

User specified

You can specify the version for the file. The default value is 1.0.

Make companion of file

You can set the file to be companion for another installed file. Use the [ ... ] button to choose one.

If you choose this option, the installation of a companion file doesn't depend on its own file versioning information, but on the versioning of its companion parent.

This option is not available for the files that are key path in a component because the key path file versioning logic would be determined by the companion parent file.
