Re: Prevent IIS Features Being Installed

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

We do not have any configuration under Windows Server Roles. All we have done is added a Windows Features Bundle which should install the following features:

- Internet Information Services > World Wide Web Services > Security > IP Security
- Internet Information ...

Prevent IIS Features Being Installed

Hi,

We are currently developing a web application that will be installed to IIS using an Advanced Installer setup. As this is a public-facing web server, we want it as tied down as possible and only have the specific IIS features that we need installed. However, despite going through all of the ...

Default installation folder on upgrade

Hi,

We are in the process of converting our existing .NET products from separate 32- and 64-bit applications to single "Any CPU" applications. Part of this work is to update the installers to use mixed 32/64 so that the default installation location is the "Program Files" folder irrespective of the ...

Custom Actions under "Run As Administrator"

Hi,

I'm having a problem with our MSI package that installs a simple executable and I hope someone can help...

Part of the installation process is a custom action that copies, when present, a file from the source directory (i.e. the directory from where the MSI is located) to the target directory ...

Automatically choosing installation type

Hi there,

I need a little bit of help...

What I would like to accomplish is that when our installer upgrades an existing version, it will conditionally not show the Setup Type dialog and instead, automatically choose either "Full" or "Typical" based on what's already installed. Here is how I plan ...

Re: Can a 32-bit installer upgrade a 64-bit application?

Hi,

For anybody who finds this post, I have worked with the guys in AI Technical Support and have determined that this is a fault in Windows 7. Having obtained verbose logs, the problem is actually easy to spot (when you know what you're looking for!); this is a log from Windows 8.1, which ...

Can a 32-bit installer upgrade a 64-bit application?

Hi,

I have a problem that I hope you'll be able to help with.

We have an application that we have previously made available in both 32- and 64-bit versions. The installers share the same product code and upgrade codes, which ensures they cannot be simultaneously installed.

For the next release ...

Re: Custom Action DLL: Unable to see AI_INSTALL etc.

Hi,

The answer is yes, there is... It's called UPGRADINGPRODUCTCODE:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372380.aspx

As the documentation says, it is only configured when an old product is removed during an upgrade. Problem solved!

Ben

Re: Custom Action DLL: Unable to see AI_INSTALL etc.

Hi,

Well, I have made some progress. I was evidently wrong about the AI_MAINT and OLDPRODUCTS properties, as I can see that they do get values. Howevever, AI_MAINT only receives a value when you use the maintenance dialog; I know this sounds obvious but you don't get it when you use the Uninstall ...

Custom Action DLL: Unable to see AI_INSTALL etc.

Hi,

I am currently authoring a custom action DLL in C# that my AI installer will call. The logic in my custom action depends on whether the product is being installed, upgraded or removed. In order to try and detect this, I have tried to obtain the following properties from the Session object ...

Dialog order has been messed up

Hi,

I am authoring an installer and for some inexplicable reason, the order of the dialogs under the "Maintenance" section has been messed up and I am unable to put the dialogs back in the correct order:

Re: Conditionally stopping a service

Hi,

I'm making some progress and have reached a point whereby I am trying to stop the service by running sc.exe using a custom action. If I run my installer, I get the following failure:

Conditionally stopping a service

Hi,

I am building an installer to install our Transport Agent for Exchange Server. As part of the installation process, I'd like to conditionally stop the MSExchangeTransport service, install our DLL, register the DLL (requires two commands to be executed in the Exchange Powershell) and the re ...
