Re: MSI stalls while uninstalling a feature

Hey there Catalin, I'm continuing to try and narrow this problem down some more before I send you anything. However I have made another discovery that is possibly related to this, I'm not sure. When I am in add-remove programs doing maintenance and select a new feature to install that wasn't there o...

MSI stalls while uninstalling a feature

Having a strange problem with a project, whereby our installer (built with AI Ent 18.1.1) is freezing when run on target system to uninstall a single feature during "maintenance". The last thing seen on screen is the dialog showing status msg "extracting files from archive". We h...

Re: Use network adapters information to identify the computer

Ah I see ... so when you select this checkbox, it replaces or augments using the processor ID with the MAC address for the purposes of generating the 'request' value that has to be 'countersigned' (in effect) by the license generation process? But I assume then that if you havent selected the option...

Re: Use network adapters information to identify the computer

My problem is it's not clear how you even use this feature? How do you specify for a given license what is the valid MAC address?

(it doesn't seem to be well documented)

Use network adapters information to identify the computer

Hi,

Could you explain how this feature in the licensing tab works?

I had expected it would enable doing a runtime check of the MAC address to what MAC address was in the license file (using customised license) but this doesn't seem to be the case?

Thanks,
MT

Re: Problem generating custom license keys

Many thanks for explaining those points. A few followups: So in fact a sppcific trial.dll is something that gets generated and is associated with every individual release version of a product. If the only thing that effectively had changed was the release date, there's not really anything that actua...

Re: Problem generating custom license keys

Just some further info on this problem. I think it was occurring because in dev environment I had not actually used the setup package to install it. Once I used the installer, it must have reset some things in the registry relating to the trial and it then worked correctly, inc installation of the k...

Problem generating custom license keys

Hi, Currently trialling latest version 16.5 at Enterprise level and having some issues with the registration license key features. Using your C# test application (under VS2019), all works fine for simpler scenarios, such as serial numbers. Also works with user specific customised license, but only t...

Re: Repackaging multiple apps into a single msi

Another user had this same issue. The solution is posted in the following thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5078 OK We'll have to try that again. Please note that you should repackage 64bit components on a 64bit system and 32bit components on a 32bit system. You can then organize them into 64bit feat...

Re: Repackaging multiple apps into a single msi

Not sure about the reboot thing...you said that if the application requires a reboot to complete installation, that AI will handle this and perform the poast snapshot after the reboot. But when we tried this, it doesn't seem to have any idea of a job that is 'in progress'...once you restart AI it ha...

Re: Repackaging multiple apps into a single msi

Excellent. Thanks for that. We have had more success using the chained packages approach, and so that looks to be how we will proceed. Re Windows Installer 4.5, that's not a problem as this is intended for Windows 7 anyway. (I don't know if MS are releasing updates to Windows Installer services for ...

Re: Repackaging multiple apps into a single msi

OK Thanks for that, we sort of figured that was what you had to do. We're also looking at using chained packages, as this is actually a more natural fit for our situation anyway, and may save us from having to repackage certain individual items which already have vendor msi's. However, you didn't an...

Repackaging multiple apps into a single msi

We're not quite sure whether what we're trying to do is possible, but basically we want to be able to repackage several apps into the one installer. Also, not every app actually has its own installer anyway...some are just "copy these files to where you want then". Do you have any specific...
