Re: Generate WIX files

I still think this is a good idea. Thanks for resurrecting the topic.

Re: Generate WIX files

Yes, yes, yes. I agree with this suggestion. The reason I need it is because WIX is kinda a pain to get set up right if you're not experienced with it. There is one main reason I want WIX files - because my clients ask for them. I have a major client that needed an installer, I built one using AI, t...

Re: Need to detect SQL Server 64-bit as a prerequisite

It turns out that on my dev machine I have SQL 2008 so I needed to add a second registry key to check so now the Test passes when checking for it. However, the prereq check still failed on a 64-bit machine after installing SQL Server 2005 64-bit so I still think something is wrong with the check. Th...

Need to detect SQL Server 64-bit as a prerequisite

I have an installer that installs SQL Server Express 2005. I recently started supporting 64-bit installations so I copied my aip file and tweaked it to be install the 64-bit edition of SQL Server. I have found that after the install of SQL Server is complete the installer warns me that all the prere...

Re: Suggestions for predefined prerequisites

Right now I'm in need of a SQL Server 2005 Express 64-bit prereq. Using the prereq you have mostly works except that it can't detect the 64 bit install so after SQL installs it tells you that it's missing a prereq. The user can complete the installation and everything is fine but it's certain to cau...

Re: Suggestions for predefined prerequisites

.Net Framework 4.0 I know it's really, really new but we're thinking of updating our app for it and we'd like to start using Advanced Installer to package the app. Note: my copy is a little old 7.5.2 because our support lapsed. I don't know if the two newer versions support .Net 4.0 but I didn't not...

Re: add SQL Server Express

I've noticed that the prerequisite included only detects the version of the default instance. My laptop has SQL Server 2000 and 2005 installed. The prereq check finds version 8.0 in the registry and reports that the prereq isn't met. It turns out the version 9.0 registry value is buried in a key nam...

Rename an old file on install and rename back on uninstall?

I'm using Advanced Installer to create an update to an existing installation. I'm replacing just a few files during the install and I'd like to keep the old files around. How do I rename or move the old files on install? Likewise, how do I rename them back on uninstall? I'd like the users to be able...
