Unfortunately, it's not possible to install an MSI included inside of a main MSI using a custom action. You will have to use an EXE wrapper as mentioned in the forum post you shared.

If you want to create a web-based installation package you can do this by selecting the Web-Installer in the Builds page.
This creates a single EXE file that will download and install an MSI from an URL.

If you want to change the copyright policy, this can be done by going to Builds in the side panel. Select your Build and click on the
Customize EXE metadata link in the Output section.

Yes you can have multiple versions of Advanced Installer on your machine, but only by installing them separately.
You cannot upgrade a version and keep the previous version.
