Re: Named instances (like in MS SQL Server installator)

Hi,

Unfortunately we cannot offer an ETA for now. However, this improvement is still on our TODO list and will be available in a future version.

Re: Multiple folders in Users Folder for User creation

Hi,

I'm not sure why you are encountering this behavior. Can you please send us the .AIP (project) file you are using and a verbose installation log to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can investigate them?

Re: Accessing Temporary Files

Hi, For feature-based prerequisites you can add the INI as a temporary file. You can then use the temporary file property in the prerequisite command line. For example, if the temporary is using a property called SQL_INI_TEMP_FILE, the prerequisite command line can look something like this: /Configu...

Re: HowTo: WinSXS?

Hi, Since it's the Visual C++ redistributable, you can simply remove the WinSxS folder from your project and add the redistributable as a prerequisite. If there would have been custom assemblies, most likely they would have been installed in the application folder (for example Program Files). Only t...

Re: Display error from bad SQL

Hi,

The only way to show errors for SQL connections is to check the Connection and all its scripts are verbose option. This way if the connection encounter an error, the ODBC response will be displayed in a message box.

Re: Delete shortcuts on update

Hi,

Is the shortcut still present after a reboot? If it is, can you please send us the .AIP (project) files of the old and new versions so we can investigate them? Also send a verbose log of the upgrade process.

Re: Create Custom Shortcut

Hi Greg, Since the shortcuts are basically the same, but with different arguments, you can try a simpler approach: - use only one shortcut - in its Arguments field use a custom installer property , for example [SHORTCUT_ARGUMENTS] - in Custom Actions page show InstallInitialize action in InstallExec...

Re: Update Listbox after Combobox selection changed

Hi Martin, Unfortunately this is a limitation in the Windows Installer engine, so there's not much we can do about it. Combo box control cannot publish events, so they cannot notify other controls that the selected value has changed. You can either use a different control which can publish events or...

Re: HowTo: WinSXS?

Hi, The guide is pretty simple: never install files in WinSxS folder . WinSxS is used for assembly registration and protected by Windows. So you cannot install files in it and only an assembly registration process can write data there. Most likely some assemblies need to be registered in your packag...

Re: Starting a Service

Hi,

This problem is not related to Advanced Installer or the application. The service itself fails to start because of an ODBC driver it's using. So you need to determine why the service cannot start after a reboot and fix it.

Re: Shortcut on Desktop

Hi, I want to create Quick Launch short cut from there i need to start Tomcat services which is in services.msc This is not a good solution. If your service start type is set to Automatic, it should start automatically when Windows starts. If it doesn't, the solution is to find out why and fix it. I...

Re: How to allow network & ANONYMOUS user to access SQL serv

Hi, I'm afraid that this is not supported by Advanced Installer. You can try adding user permissions by using an SQL script or a custom action . This is done differently for each SQL server type, so you need to investigate how it can be done for your server. Unfortunately we don't have any samples f...

Re: Folder permissions for „Users“ Group for non english sys

Hi Michael, The recommended solution is to use a custom action which retrieves the localized user or group name: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/157234 This localized name can be stored in an installer property which can then be used when setting permissions. We already have an improvement for this ...

Re: Show StartMenuShortcutsDlg only when needed

Hi,

Please note that dialogs can be conditioned only through our dialog editor which is available only in Enterprise and Architect projects. So the "Show only if" option cannot be used in Simple, Professional or Java projects.
