64 bit component somoetimes installed on 32 bit systems

Dear Sir or Madam, I use AI 7.1.3 enterprise. I have a package that has a file for 32 bit windows and one for the 64 bit . Usually this works fine. But on some (Win 7) systems the installation tries to install and register the 64 bit component, which (of course) fails with error -2147024703. But I d...

Re: create a task during installation

thanks again for the answer. well, that now clarifies where to specify RunAsAdminFile, RunAsAdminCmd and RunAsAdminWorkingDir. This is not described in the help and was completely unclear to me. But it is not described exactly how to enter ' RunAsAdminFile' etc. What to enter in the field 'Name'? e....

Re: create a task during installation

thanks fo the links, I will check them. Unfortunately I still have problem creating the task (on Win Vista/7): When I define as user (or group) for the task the group 'USER', the task will be created during installation. So that is ok. But when I want to start that task by commandline (schtasks.exe ...

Re: create a task during installation

Thanks again for your answer. after trying many, many, many different ways, I finally succeeded in adding my task. But it would be fine to explain some things, menus, items in AI more clearly or describe them at all. E.g. RunAsAdmin or - immediate - deferred - rollback - commit and the different cus...

Re: create a task during installation

it seems the customn action is not executed with admin privileges. I found out that there is a UI custom action to do this. Why is this only possible via a UI custom action? So, how can I start my UI custom action e.g. when the progress bar has reached 100%? And how do I define that UI custom action...

Re: create a task during installation

ok, I succeeded in installing the xml file with the correct path in it. But executing the custom action always fails. I tried attached custom action, then custom action -> exe with working dir and predefined custom action -> launch file or URL It always fails. e.g. from the log: MSI (s) (D8:DC) [18:...

Re: create a task during installation

Is it 'new attached customaction'. Is the the schtasks.exe used which is already at the computer. Or is the file c...

create a task during installation

I use the AI 7.1.3 to create my installation. I need to create a task (on vista and Win 7 only). AI 7.1.3 do not offer all the features I require for the task I want to create, e.g. create a task in a subfolder, no trigger, use highest privileges. So, I would like to create the task via the command ...

Re: 64bit windows, registry, Wow6432Node is used

Can you please specify what do you mean by "component"? Just to be on the same page, I am referring to an Organization component specific to any installer design. Here is the user guide definition . With a component I mean a dll, which belongs to the main feature. This cannot be true. An ...

Re: 64bit windows, registry, Wow6432Node is used

I have an explorer extension dll . It reads the key e.g. HKLM\Software\Mycompany\MySoftware. The component exists as 32 and as 64 component. On a 32 bit windows only the 32 component is used. On 64 bit windows the 64 component is used in the explorer. So that is all fine But as far as I know, 32 bit...

Re: 64bit windows, registry, Wow6432Node is used

If the registry value is indeed for a 64-bit application then it cannot be installed on 32-bit machines But the registry key marked as 64 bit component is set on a 32 bit machine correctly. And that is what I need. There is a 32 bit AND a 64 bit component reading the same registry key. Though I nee...

Re: 64bit windows, registry, Wow6432Node is used

thanks, I think I got that.
buit how to define the same key e.g. HKLM\Software\[Manfucaturer]\[ProductName]\Path as a 64 bit item componente AND a 32 bit component?
I cannot add 'Path' twice?
And the branch is in AI the same although it is not on 64 bit machines.

Custom action with admin privileges

Hello, I use AI 7.1.3 enterprise. During the installation I want to add a task in windows task scheduler. As the tasks pane in AI does not offer all the options I need, I want to import the task during installation via a command line from an XML file, e.g.: schtasks.exe /Create /TN MyCompany\MyTaskn...
