Context menu entries does not appear on Windows 11

Wed Aug 03, 2022 5:02 am

According to this instruction: https://www.advancedinstaller.com/addin ... -menu.html
I tried to add new context menus entries that should be visible in new context menu on Windows 11.
We have updated Advanced Installer to 19.7.1 version and added in File Associations page context menu entries. Configured them and made sure the Windows 11 Context Menu option is enabled. Digitally sign our package with test certificate (by clicking Create...). We build on Windows Server 2012, then we install on DIFFERENT machine where Windows 11 installed. But context menus does not appear.
What are we doing wrong?
Is digitally sign may have impact on this?

Hello and welcome to our forums,

From what I can see, you already have an ongoing thread with my colleague over the email.

In order to avoid duplicate threads, please continue it there.

Catalin, thank you for reply.
So, is there are any solution to add Windows 11 context menu items using that .aip?

Hello,

You are welcome!

Regarding your question, yes that should work.

In fact, I have built your .AIP file and tested the setup on a Win11 VM and it seemed to be working as expected. Of course, for this I have replaced the existing Context Menu Entry from your AIP file with one of my own, since I do not have the executable you have used.

Now, what I have noticed is that you might need to install the used certificate on the machine prior to the installation for this to work. From what I've seen, you are using a test certificate and that is absolutely fine for testing purposes.

Could you please try installing the certificate prior to installing the setup and let me know how that works?

To do so, you can proceed as it follows:

right click on your MSI --> "Properties" --> "Digital Signature" tab --> double click on the certificate --> "View certificate" --> "Install certificate".

Please install it under "Local Machine" --> "Trusted Root Certification Authorities"

Hello, Catalin, thank you for a reply.

It doesn't work for me. I installed certificate under "Local Machine" -> "Trusted Root Certification Authorities".
Then, installed .msi, but new context menu item appeared only for "legacy" context menu, but not for modern Windows 11 context menu.

I installed it again after reboot + installed updates for Windows 11. Nothing changed in .aip and it's worked. Thanks!
That's looks like a magic now...
It's better to Restart windows explorer
