"Verify User" option - how does it verify the user?

Hi there,

I have product that uses the Advanced Installer and the "Verify User exists" function as part of that install. We have various users advising it's suggesting the verification has failed yet the account itself is valid [As a test, they have run another application as "another user" entered the same details and its worked].

My questions is "how" how the installer verify the user? [Where is it checking? is a specific format for the username/password needed? Would any system permissions be needed to allow the check to be done, such as access to read from AD or something else?]
