Advanced Updater

Tue Jan 09, 2007 2:55 pm

Hi,
I work for InfoNotary, Bulgaria (local certification authority).
We are looking for installer system with automatic update capabilities.
I'm evaluating Advanced Installer Professional and I have a question.
I've enabled Advanced Updater in the setup, I've created (with update frequency set to 7 days).
But when I've installed the newly created setup I found that the Updater is not present in the scheduled tasks and (as a result) it's not running automatically.
I've added a shortcut to the Updater in the Start menu and when I run manually the updater it works fine.

Could you, please tell me, how to get the Advanced Updater running automatically on the client machines.
Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Vladislav Evgeniev

If you want to integrate the updater as Windows scheduled task use "As a Windows scheduled task" option in the "Updater" page and click "Configure..." button to specify the task behavior. Note that this option is available only for "Enterprise" type of projects.

If you use the first option (as you already do) you need to integrate the updater with your application, for more details please see:

Also for more details about how to use the updater please see:

Hi,
thanks for the answer.
In the "Professional" project type, under "Update", there is "Update frequency" option. I don't understand if this option works for "Professional" projects or it is only for "Enterprise" ones?

Hi,

Yes, that option is available for "Professional" or higher type of projects. In this case your application is responsible the run the updater. On how to run the updater from you application please see:
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-g ... dater.html

This works like this: When you application starts the updater verify the "Update Frequency" to see if it's time to check or not for updates.

Note that the option to run the updater as Windows scheduled task was added beginning with the 4.6 version of Advanced Installer and it's available for "Enterprise" type of projects.

Best Regards,
Gigi
