setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

Hi all

We used Advanced installer 8.5
Now we updated on a new computer to 9.4
both are enterprise versions.

running an old project on the old PC with 8.5 everything runs fine.
Running the same project eith the new PC and Advanced installer 9.4 gives th following result:

The setup starts and shows the license agreement, but when starting to install it crashes. I can't say, if it is installing a proquesit or the software itself.

all OS are Windows 7 64 Bit

We use userdefined Dialogs and some prereqeusites and merge modules.

SPECTRUM_4.0.04_setup.exe is the name of the setup we created.

Who can help?

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

1.When we upgraded to 9.4, skipping 9.3, ie from 9.2 to 9.4, it seemed like possibly the AIP was not fully upgraded. Thus I was wondering if Advanced Installer's upgrades are incremental or complete? It seemed like they were complete because the prompt un-checks 9.3 if one clicks 9.4, in my case.

2.Also, for 9.4 the XML attribute inside the AIP file did NOT change from version="9.2" to version="9.4". That freaked me out a bit, though Bogdan said it was ok. I manually changed it because it is very important for me to easily keep track of which one it is. I'd like to be sure we still have an updated version attribute.

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

We did the update from 8.5 to 9.4

But does it matter?
I expect no probkems using an 8.5 project with 9.4, because it takes the project and updates it.

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

There should be no problems with a direct upgrade of a project from 8.5 to 9.4. I am not sure what is causing the failure in your case. Can you please send us the verbose log to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can investigate it?.

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

Hi

The log stops at "Installing prerequisites" phase, with no error message, so it does not give me to many details.

Maybe this is caused by a conversion bug which we cannot trace in the project changes. Can you please delete all feature-based prerequisites, save the project, than add them back using version 9.4 and rebuild the setup package? Make sure you first delete the current output and cache for the project.

Bogdan

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

Is it ok that I manually changed version="9.2" to version="9.4" in my AIP? I'm assuming yes but would just like confirmation.

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

Its ok, but we don't recommended as in some cases Advanced Installer checks the version of the project to see if it needs to perform custom upgrade operations for certain features from it, so if you manually change it could be tricked into thinking the project was already upgrade it.

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

Hmm, well indeed my project was actually upgraded to 9.4. In this case it appeared the file needed no mods. Maybe that's why AIP didn't update the version, but I like to keep it consistent. Do you think that's ok?

//edit 2012-09-24 ; maybe that particular AIP had some oddities; another aip I upgraded did properly get its version information into the file.

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

Hi

So far so good.

the most time consuming part has to be done again instead of getting it from the software.
Main thing is: It's running again.

next problem is: We need languagedepending license Agreements.
I followed the instructions I found in the helpfiles: creating an aip file using in the project, but, when I install in german it doesn't use the eule_de.rtf file but the eula.rtf file, which is given in the dialog.

this is my aip file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<DICTIONARY type="multilanguage" ignore="en">
<ENTRY id="AgreementText">
<STRING lang="en" value="C:\Program Files (x86)\Caphyon\Advanced Installer 9.4\resources\eula_en_GB.rtf"/>
<STRING lang="en_GB" value="C:\Program Files (x86)\Caphyon\Advanced Installer 9.4\resources\eula_en_GB.rtf"/>
<STRING lang="es" value="C:\Program Files (x86)\Caphyon\Advanced Installer 9.4\resources\eula_es.rtf"/>
<STRING lang="de" value="C:\Program Files (x86)\Caphyon\Advanced Installer 9.4\resources\eula_de.rtf"/>
</ENTRY>
</DICTIONARY>

all the given files exists.
What did I do wrong?

Re: setup crashes after upgrading to 9.4

Hi,

Advanced Installer 9.4 has a wizard which allows you to set the EULA for each language. Just follow these steps:
- remove your custom dictionary from Translations page
- remove LicenseAgreementDlg from dialogs page
- save your project
- add LicenseAgreementDlg dialog
- use the wizard to set the main EULA and its localized versions
