Converting .wse Scripts

Fri Apr 26, 2013 8:08 pm

I'm evaluating Advance Installer so my company can move on from Wise scripts. We currently use Wise Installation System 9.02 Professional and need to move to an environment that has active support. I thought Advanced Installer would be able to convert my scripts but the only options I see are for .wsi files, which we do not have. I tried using "All files" to import a .wse file but I got a "File may be in use" message. Can Advanced Installer import my scripts and if so, how do I do it?

Hello,

Thank you for joining Advanced Installer forum.

Unfortunately, we don't have predefined support for this. My colleagues will investigate the possibility to add this feature and as soon I have an answer I will give it.

If you require any further information, feel free to contact us.

Best regards,
Dan

Is there's something new about the .wse import feature or will it not be implemented?
regards,
Éric.

Hi Éric,

Since these are the only requests, the .wse import has been postponed due to low priority. Perhaps in the future we will increase its priority, but for the moment there are not immediate plans.

However, note that we do support the .WSI project import. For details, please take a look on the Importing a WISE project article.

If you have other questions, please let us know.

I see this is an older post, but my team is also interested in getting this functionality into Advanced Installer. Most of stuff is .wse junk.

Hello,

My company is also interested in converting WSE scripts into an Advanced Installer project. Is this possible? Can I use the WISE project import? Any steps I can take to convert a WSE script into a Advanced Installer project?

Thank you,

Peter

Hello Peter and welcome to our forums,

Yes, this is possible. On our "Start" page you could use our "New -> Import -> WISE Project" project template.

All the best,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

I received an error message when I attempted to import a WSE file.

I followed your instructions to go to the "Start" page and select "New -> Import -> WISE Project" project template.

When I select the WISE Project, a popup showed allowing me to search for a file. The file searcher was looking for a WSI file. So I looked for all files and added the WSE file I wanted to import.

After added the WSE file and selecting next, I received the following error.

I am using Advanced Installer 15.2 Enterprise edition.

Let me know what I can do to import the WSE file.

Thanks,

Peter

Hello Peter,

I am sorry for the confusion made. My colleague meant that it is possible to import .WSI scripts into Advanced Installer.

Unfortunately, we do not have support to import .WSE script into Advanced Installer, that being the reason why the file searcher was looking for a .WSI file.

If there is anything else I can help you with, don't hesitate to contact me and I'll gladly assist!

Kind regards,
Catalin

Hi,
We have a number of old .wse Wise Installation scripts that we would like to move to Advanced Installer msi's. I realise that the import functionality on AI does not support .wse files, but I would very much appreciate it if anybody that has been through this process could share any tips or helpful information.

Thanks very much,
Alan

Hello Alan,

Indeed, as you have mentioned, we do not have such support as for this moment. We have this on our TODO list of improvements.

Unfortunately, as I am not familiar with Wise, I can not provide any tips or useful information on this topic.

Please let me know if there is anything else I could help you with and I will gladly assist.

Best regards,

Hello,

Any update on this. We are looking to convert our legacy WSE scripts to AdvancedInstaller. It doesn't appear this option is available. Does Advanced Installer have any updates on this or if it's even possible?

Hello and welcome to our forums,

I'm afraid this feature has not yet been added in Advanced Installer.

I will increase its priority and hopefully this will be added in a future version of Advanced Installer.

Once this will be available, I will update this thread.

Best regards,
