Side by Side installation and CR Merge Modules

Hi,
I am currently using AI 9.8.
My package is set as a normal non-side-by-side installation.

In my installation package I have included the Crystal Reports 11.5 (XI R2) Runtime files using the recommended Merge files from SAP-Crystal Reports.

I have been using these for years with no problems. I have no other settings for these files.

Crystal Reports Merge Modules supports Side-By-Side installations of the Runtime dlls by default, starting with version 9.

One customer uses the older Crystal Reports Version 9 runtimes and a program using this.

When my program installs, then some things in the other program using CR 9 do not work.
When my product is uninstalled, it appears that it removes the other CR version files as well.

My question is simple: Is it possible that an AI installation settings or something is causing a problem here?

The common files from both versions are under the same main folder (Business Objects) in Common Files, but there are separate bin folders for each version.
When my product uninstalls, is there a possibility that AI settings cause the main folder and everything under it to be removed?

(I have these merge modules associated with a feature by themselves, but still under the main feature node).

Thank you!

Re: Side by Side installation and CR Merge Modules

Hello Clint,

The related files could be removed by your package install/uninstall if you are adding file removal or folder removal operations in your project. Otherwise the files will be uninstalled on uninstall if their associated components are not shared between multiple product installations. Please take a look on our "How can I share a file between multiple packages so when one of the packages is uninstalled the file is not deleted?" article which could be useful for you.

Let us know if this helped, otherwise please give us more details about your scenario (maybe exemplify).

All the best,
Daniel
