I'm not sure I fully understand your scenario. Do you need to change the version of the application displayed in Control Panel?
IF this is the case you could achieve this by modifying the "DisplayVersion" registry value contained by the following registry hive:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<ProductCode of the old package>"
Note: The above example is for a 32-bit applications. The registry hive for 64-bit applications should not contain the "WOW6432Node" key.
