Controls toolbox not showing

The controls toolbox is no longer showing anywhere. I can click it on or off from the toolbar, it is not rendered anywhere on any of my two screens.
I have already tried updating AI, but this behaviour is consistent is in 14.5.2, 14.8 and 15.0.1.

I am not sure why you encounter this behavior. I have tested it and it works fine.

I have tested this on Windows 10.

Can you please give me more details about your OS ?

My OS is Windows 10 as well. Is it possible that the window position of the toolbox is saved somewhere and is outside the visible area?

I just found in the registry at

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Caphyon\Advanced Installer\UI Positions\Dialogs\Dialog Editor\Toolbox PositionX

I have reset the value to 100, and the toolbox was visible again. Then I tried the visible values: When the window is in the top left corner of my screens, the registry value is 10, and in the top right corner it's e3a. I don't know where the fffffa5e comes from, but maybe you should check whether the toolbox window is in the visible area?

I am glad that you got a solution.

Indeed, this behavior may appear if you, for example, have switched from a two monitors hardware configuration to only one. This happens because, upon closing Advanced Installer, we store the controls UI display coordinates in the registry and on next Advanced Installer restart we try to recreate them where they were placed on the monitor last time.

This is an Advanced Installer limitation, we will try to come with an improvement in this regard in the future.

I always had a two-monitor setup on this machine - never one, never three. Always the same two Full-HD displays. Not sure how the toolbox got into that ffff... position.

I thought hard about it and I can finally cause the issue reproducibly. I am sometimes switching between two desks, and for some reason the monitors are attached differently on different desks, so I head into View Options and drop monitor 2 to the right or left side of monitor 1, to match the actual hardware.



Playing around with the toolbox position, I found:

If my monitors are [1] [2] the X position is between 0 and 3840
If my monitors are [2] [1] the X position is between -1920 and 1920

So that's why the toolbox didn't show, I tried to get rid of it and pulled it onto the [2] screen, which's coordinates are outside the visible area on the other dual-view setup.

Thank you very much for your follow up on this and for helping us to replicate this issue. We were able to replicate the behavior following the steps you posted and this indeed seems to be an Advanced Installer issue.
