Error Code 2732

Wed Jan 26, 2005 7:24 pm

I get an Error Code 2732 when running my built setup package with I include a .msm merge module, but do not get it without the module.
What is this error?
Is there an explanation of error codes somewhere?
Thanks
Paul

There is a problem with the msm. Can you give us details about it?

Thanks,

Well, I see what I can do, I can't send it right now due to licensing issues.
Anything I can check?

Run it with "Run and Log" and send us the log. Using ORCA, you can check the file sequencing, for the beginning.

Error Code 2732

Mon Mar 21, 2005 8:32 pm

Cata,

I've tried again with the latest msi package included and here is the run log that results. There is a line that says:

DEBUG: Error 2732: Directory Manager not initialized.

What does this indicate?
Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Paul

Error 2732

Mon Mar 21, 2005 9:52 pm

Further to the previous message in this thread:

Cata:

At the failure, it looks like the msm module is trying to set some user profiles that require the Directory manager. But the Directory manager is not initialized. Without the msm module included, the next step in the log file is setting the TARGET DIRECTORY and the costing functions.

From MSI reference:

2732 "Directory manager not initialized".
The directory manager is responsible for determining the target and source paths. It is initialized during the costing actions ( CostInitialize action, FileCost action, and CostFinalize action.) A standard action or custom action made a call to a function requiring the directory manager before the initialization of the directory manager. This action should be sequenced after the costing actions.

Should the msm be able to assume that the directory manager is already initialized, because the Costing functions have already taken place?

Or should the msm module be doing something itself, such as costing, to initialize the directory manager?

Thanks for your help.

Paul Limburg

Error Coce 2732

Tue Mar 22, 2005 8:44 am

Cata,
Further to the previous 2 posts in this thread:

I've talked to the msm supplier. They say this problem occurs because the MS msi tools process merge modules before doing disk costing, which installs the directory manager. Other installers don't do this.

Is there some way to force disk costing before the installer processes the merge module?

Hi Paul,

Since DirectoryManager is initialized by CostInitialize I think that any standard or custom action that needs DM to be initialized should be scheduled after CostFinalize.

Advanced Installer uses sequence tables as recomended by Microsoft so I would say that the merge module should be changed. But which "other installers" is he referring to?

Then the only solution is to change the resulting MSI created by Advanced Installer with ORCA and move the actions that trigger the error after CostFinalize.

Question: Can you send us the resulting MSI (with the merge module included) but with no files - make an administrative image, this way it can not be installed - but we can look at its sequence tables?

Thanks,
Cata

The error code is 2732

Thu Jun 22, 2006 7:11 pm

I have created a SETUP.exe for my Package Tracking System using Symbol Scanner Pocket PC 8846 in VB.net 2003 to be deployed on a client PC. I followed the instruction on the SF_MobileApp_Guide.pdf. Setup the redistribution kit and did the install all those files.

When I tried to install a Setup for Package Tracking System on a client computer, it gave me error. "The Installer has encountered an unexpected error initialing this package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The error is 2732"

That error 2732 is relating to Windows Installer below:

"Directory manager not initialized".

From what I understand, when I do a setup in VB.net, it creates a setup.msi file. I downloaded ORCA from Microsoft and tried to edit setup.msi file. One article on the internet suggested that it might SystemFolder in .msi file but it is correctly addressed in .msi file. What is it in .msi file that I need to fix?

I installed C:\Program Files\Common Files to a client computer by using vb.net setup program, the Setup.exe installed and regsvr32 just fine. Is it .MSM file that is causing me a problem?

I hope someone has an idea how to fix .msi file so I can install it to a client pc.

Thanks,
David
