Question about empty rol****.tmp.xml files

Wed May 15, 2019 10:26 am

Dear Advanced Installer Support Team,

Nowadays we noticed that some leftover files appear during the installation of our product in
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp
folder.

The files have file names like rol****.tmp.xml

For example:
rol7006.tmp.xml
rolA86F.tmp.xml
rolB348.tmp.xml

They are just empty files without any content. We also noticed they appear while the install wizard is executing the "Writing registry keys" step.

Since we did not see those files in the past, we are wondering whether those files are created by a newer version of AI - we recently upgraded from 14.5.1 to 15.9.

Do you have any information about those files? Are they created by you? Our problem is that they are not removed after the installation at all.

Best regards,
Zsolt

Hi Zsolt,

I'm not sure why this happens. I tried to reproduce the behavior, but this didn't happen to me. Can you send me your project, so I can investigate it and try to find what setting could cause this?

Best regards,

Hi Zsolt,

After investigation we found that those files are, indeed, created and left there by the custom actions that handles the Windows Server Roles. A fix for this will be available in a future version of Advanced Installer. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!
