Save typed serial number

Sat Oct 03, 2020 9:11 am

1. Hi, is there is a possible ways to save typed serial number and displayed it again so user didn't have to type it again when they launch the installer?
2. Did fixed set of serial number work across different product updates? Or, I have to generate it again and give it to the customer when there's a new product update?

Thank you :)

Hello,

In order to achieve this, please have a look over our "How do I make the properties in the package keep their values during Maintenance or Upgrade?" article.

Yes, the serial number should work for a product upgrade.

Hi, it doesn't work, it keep displaying the value that I entered in Edit Property Dialog. It doesn't save the serial code that I entered to install the product. I want when the user launch the installer, the serial number is displayed automatically in Masked Edit box.

Hello,

I am not quite sure I understand your scenario here.

By "Serial Number", don't you refer to the one from your screenshot (265N-I129-823W-08M8-L609-3340)?

If so, did you set the "Set persistent property" for the property that stores the "Serial Number" and it did not work?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello,

Please find attached the requested sample project:
Persistent Serial Number - Sample.aip
(14.13KiB)Downloaded 214 times
The steps to be taken are as follows:

- in "Dialogs" page, select your control and check its' property name. In our case, the property is PIDKEY

- go to "Install Parameters" page and under "Properties", check the "Show properties with empty value or used in dialog controls" option

- double click on the PIDKEY property. Check the "Set persistent property" attribute, write something (anything) in the "Comment" field and then click "Ok"

This way, the property should be preserved and displayed during an upgrade.

Hope this helps!
