how to define a prerequisite pre-install (with URL) command line parameter

Fri Oct 08, 2021 9:15 am

Hello,

in my setup, I am writing a pre-install url-based prerequisite I'd like to run in silent mode (if it comes to be installed according to the conditions I set).
The download package is a .exe and accepts the /quiet as parameter to hide all the wizard dialog. From a command line DOS this parameter works fine.
When I tried to specify /quiet in the Install Command Line Full UI section, it did not work.

What was I wrong on with that?

Hello,

Do you launch your main setup with full UI?

Please note that the command line passed into the "Full UI" field will only be used if the main setup is launched with full UI.

Best regards,

Hello,

thanks for the reply.
I put the same /quite on both full UI and silent mode since our setup may be launched in full ui mode and with command line.
The thing is that the downloaded .exe is still executed ignoring that modifier.
Is the msi log containig something where I can see whether that modifier is taken into account or not?

Hello,

Thank you for your followup on this.

In this case, I do not think a log file would be of much help.

In order for me to further investigate this, could you please forward me a download link for the respective prerequisite so I can test it on my end?

Best regards,

Hello Silvio,

Thank you for your followup on this.

I have tested this and everything worked as expected on my end, i.e. the prerequisite was installed silently.

If possible, could you please create a sample project that reproduces this and forward it to me (either here or by email at support at advancedinstaller dot com) so I can investigate its' settings?

Here would be the steps I took:

- created a new project

- added the URL prerequisite as pre-install

- passed the "/quiet" command line to the prerequisite

- launched the main setup

By doing so, the prerequisite was installed silently.

Best regards,
Catalin

Hello Catalin,

it worked fine, thanks.
I honestly don't understand what changed since I did exactly the same things you mentioned but, it actually worked now.
I must think you have a special power to fix issues on customers' machines, right? :)

Thanks a lot.
Kind regards
Silvio
