VS2022 and AI 18.9 - Target framework not supported

Wed Dec 01, 2021 9:32 am

Hi
When I open a Visual Studio solution that has Advanced Installer project I get a message telling me that "Target framework is not supported".
If I select "Update target to .NET Framework 4.8" the AI project is unloaded from the solution. If I try to reload the solution I am asked the same message as before.

I am using Visual Studio 2022 (17.0.1) with Advanced Installer 18.9
I am using the Advanced Installer for Visual Studio 2022 Extension.

Hello,

I am not quite sure I understand what the issue is here.

As stated in the message, your project is currently targetting .NET Framework 4.0 which is no longer supported.

To avoid this, you can select to update to .NET Framework 4.8, which is the recommended approach.

Hi
I have tried clicking "Update the target to .NET Frawork 4.8" but that does nothing.
Technically there is nothing in the aiproj file or aip file that indicates TargetFramework.
I have also tried adding a new AI project to a new solution. I selected .NET Framework 4.8.
But when I save & re-open the solution I get the same behavior.

After this the AI project is unloaded.

Hi
I just want to add an observation: I am monitoring the sln, aip and aiproj files - when I try to upgrade the target framework no updates are written to any of the files.

Hello,

Are you by any chance using Windows 11 as your Operating System?

We have run some tests on Windows 10, without being able to reproduce this. However, one of my colleagues was testing something last week related to the extension on Windows 11 and encountered the same behavior.

Hello,

Please disregard my last thread, as I managed to reproduce this on Windows 10 as well.

I will forward this to our development team for further investigations.

Hello Alberto and welcome to our forums,

Unfortunately, this has not yet been fixed.

Please disregard my last thread as that was actually a fix for another issue.

As soon as I will have a resolution to this, I will let you know as well.

Hello Liviu,
I received your email and followed your instructions.
Now the extension works fine.
Question: further updates of the extension will be released automatically by your systems?

Thanks and regards,
Roberto
