Windows 11 identification

Mon Aug 22, 2022 11:50 am

Hello,

I have currently a setup for Windows 11 ARM64, which works well. Nevertheless if try to install this on the latest Windows 11 Preview, build 22622, the setup fails with the message, that it cannot be installed for that OS.

Within the launch condition page of AI I only can select "Windows 11 version 21H2 (Preview)" (build 22000).

And using a custom condition within the same page like "(VersionNT64 = 1100 AND MsiNTProductType = 1 AND WindowsBuild >= 22000)" did not help either.

So, my question is, what should I do in order to get my setup installed in any build of Windows 11 ARM64 system?

Thanks ind advance.

Hello,

I'm not sure why this happens.

Can you please send us the .AIP (setup project) file and a download link for your setup package by email to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can further test and investigate this?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Liviu

Hello Liviu,

thanks for your answer.

The problem is very straight forward to reproduce. Just create a new project using as package type "Arm64" and having as launch condition only Windfows 11.

You find attached a project sample I made, which only install one file, and it is giving me the error on a Mac running Paralell with Windows 11 22H2 (22634).

Thanks in advance for your help,
Best regards

Hello,

I'm not quite sure I understand. Are you trying to install the ARM64 package on a Mac or a computer with Windows 11 (x64 platform)?

Please note that this will not work and this is the correct behavior.

ARM64 package can be installed only on a ARM64 Architecture.

You can also check that on the below MSFT article:

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,
Liviu

Dear,

I am installind this on a Mac Mini with M1 processor (ARM based processor), running Windows 11 for ARM (running in Parallels Desktop).

It does work as it is an ARM64 architecture. I have (and so my customers too) already successfully installed the setup on Macs with M1 processor and also on Samsung Laptops using ARM based processors (snapdragon).

I never said it could not be installed at all, only that it cannot be installed if I am using a newer Windows version.

In the meantime I also have found, that if i change the launch condition to allow Windows 10 installations too (what I actually do not want), then the setup runs well on the Windows 11 preview version. It looks for me as a bug.

The AIP project attached in my last post reproduces the behavior described. I will appreciated if you could investigate this.

Thanks in advance,

Liviu
