File association Problem AI 20.5

Mon May 08, 2023 3:46 am

I repackaged an installer using Advance Repackager 20.5. By default it detect and create the associate file extension.
On the file Association under Resource Category, the associated extension looks fine, as image below: (Sorry, can't embed GDrive link/html as image)
The file Association feature creates wired value under command key in the Registry bellow. It resulting that when we open the file (by mouse click) windows open a dialog looking for configuring from the installer. it happen every opening the time.
However, when we manually delete the wired key, everything goes fine.
Please your kind advice on how to prevent Advance Installer built setup.exe from creating the wired command value in the registry?

Hello and welcome to our forums,

That strange value string was placed there by Windows Installer. It is the so-called Darwin descriptor that Windows Installer uses to figure out what program to run when the verb is invoked by the shell. For compatibility with programs that read the registry directly, the default value is set to something approximating the local executable’s path. That default value might be incorrect if the application has moved in the meantime, and it might be missing entirely if the application is marked as install-on-demand and has never been used, but at least it keeps those rogue programs working 99% of the time.

Can you please send us by email to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can further test and investigate this, the following resources:

1. the .AIP (setup project) file
2. a download link for your setup package
3. a test case which we can follow and the OS version

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Liviu
