Update XML file in MergeModule

Hi.

I need to update XML configuration file in a merge module, but the action 'new XML file' and 'import XML file' is disabled. This only run in a main install file, not in merge module. Any solution?

-Thanks-

Hi,

At this moment, this feature is not supported by Advanced Installer but we have it in our ToDo list and it will be available in Advanced Installer's future versions.

Best regards,

Re: Update XML file in MergeModule

Hello,

I discussed the issue with the development team and research shows the implementation is not that trivial. Since this is the only request, the feature was postponed due to low priority.

I just increased its priority and the development team will try to implement it in a soon release.

All the best,
Mihai

Yes, I've increased the priority again for it, so we can implement it in one of the future versions.

I'm really disappointed I can't accomplish this in the merge module. Add my vote as well.

Yeah we're awfully surprised this isn't supported here. Add our vote! This will not make my management happy.

What's the best advisable workaround to editing a .NET config file during install in a merge module?

Re: Update XML file in MergeModule

Hello,
What's the best advisable workaround to editing a .NET config file during install in a merge module?
That would be a custom action that changes the file after it has been installed on the target machine. Another method is to use some third party tools that perform the update.

However, if you know you'll be including the merge module in your own projects, you can try to add the XML update from the main package. This should update the file even if it's included from the merge module.

Re: Update XML file in MergeModule

As of v9.4 this is still not available, right? Somehow I had thought it was available, but maybe I am not hunting or doing it right, so thought to ask again.
