Hi,
When the user tries to install our product they get an error saying "Unknown Publisher". I guess this is coming because the setup is not signed. I also know that AdvacedInstaller already provides the "signing" support.
I would need your guidance on the same, and would appreciate your help.
I've found this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wik ... 2-a-d.aspx where Microsoft informs about the registered Certificate Authorities.
Then I've found a lot of offers with widely differing prices:
• Symantechttps://products.websecurity.symantec.c ... ypeInfo.do. This is the by far most expensive and it is only for signing Microsoft Apps (no Java, no Mac).
• Thawtehttp://www.thawte.com/code-signing/index.html. Less expensive, also usable for Office (no Java, no Mac)
• KSoftware (Comodo reseller)http://codesigning.ksoftware.net/. They offer a universally usable certificate for a low price. This is so cheap compared to the others that I'm a bit suspicious. But, alas, they (Comodo) are on Microsoft's list.
• DigiCerthttp://www.digicert.com/code-signing/. Price is a bit under that of Thawte.
• There are even more...
I am a bit confused. How can the same product be offered in the same market at so differing prices without starving all competitors but the cheapest?
Anyway, two questions:
• Do you know whether the (even more expensive) Extended Validation (EV) certificate is mandatory for Windows 8?
• Have you any reasonable input for me to help decide where to buy and what?
