The server name or address could not be resolved

Mon Nov 06, 2017 12:20 pm

Hello

I need some assistance with auto update feature.

I have created an MSI and configured the auto update to run when the user logs into his machine. The auto update works correctly when there is an internet connection but gives an error popup "Checking for Updates - The server name or address could not be resolved." when there is no internet.

Is there a way i can configure the updater to check for updates only when there is an internet connection available?

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to our forums,

Unfortunately we do not have such an option for our Updater tool that identifies if there is or not an active internet connection. If your auto-updater scheduled task is configured inside Advanced Installer, we have a predefined option called "Start the task only if connected to Internet "( Updater page -->Updater Execution --> Automatic: using a Windows scheduled task). What this option does is to check your machine for any active network connections. If none are found, it will not launch the updater.

Here is a useful article detailing the Scheduled Task Properties.

All the best,
Daniel
