I am trying 14.9 - currently running as trial version.
I have added a Custom Behavior "Search" and used the wizard to add a HKCU registry value to search for. I did this with the registry selector...so the key and value currently exist on my PC.
When I try "Test Search", a quick "installer" dialog appears and then disappears. No "Search Results" dialog ever appears per the User Guide or Help.
What am I doing wrong?

Unfortunately, I could not reproduce your scenario.
Can you please send us the .aip (project file) to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can investigate its settings? If you cannot share with us your project file, then you can try to isolate the behavior in a buildable sample (.aip + its referenced files) which we can build and test on a clean test machine.
