Files in Program Files - Permissions

Tue Aug 09, 2022 5:02 pm

Hi

I need to place a file into Program files and currently there is a permission prompt. Is there any way to place the file without the prompt being presented?

Thanks

Hello Nigel,

The Program Files folder is a per-machine location that by default requires administrator privileges.

A user without admin privileges will not be able to write to that location.

To avoid that, you can set your installation type to "Per-machine only (fails if user is user is not administrator)" in "Install Parameters" page.

This way, the user will only be prompted once (when the "Install" button is pressed).

Other than that, if you have a per-user installation, I'm afraid it is not possible to avoid the prompt for admin credentials, as this is something embedded in the OS which we have no control over.

Best regards,
