File Association has an incorrect icon when app is published via Microsoft Store

Mon Aug 08, 2022 3:58 pm

Problem description - When deploying a regular, desktop (winforsm) app via Microsoft Store, it's file association icon is ignored, and the default icon for the app is used instead.

How to reproduce ? - Deploy an app via Microsoft Store that has a file association with a set icon. Sideloading appeas to have the same issue.

Environment - See attached AIP.

We've tried many different things to solve this issue, so far without success. The app deploys correctly when we use the regular install wizard (the .exe installer), but sideloading it with an appx or sending it to MS Store results in the noted issue.

Any pointers in how to solve this issue?

Thanks in Advance!

Hi and welcome to our forums,

I have debated this with my dev team and it seems this is currently a limitation of our MSIX support. The file association option in MSIX currently supports only the icon of the target application.

We have added an improvement on our todo list so we can automatically use the icon of file association item (specified for the MSI build in "File Associations" page) for the MSIX build too. When this improvement will be included in a future version of Advanced Installer we will update this forum thread too.

All the best,
Daniel
