Multiple shortcuts with same name and location

Hi,

There is a restriction that Advanced Installer does not allow me to create multiple shortcuts with the same name at the same location. As the name of my shortcuts includes a property, and those shortcuts are also only included depending on the chosen build config, I need to use the same name multiple times. My current solution is to use additional spaces at the end, but that's not a perfect solution here. Can this be improved?

Best regards,
Johannes

Hello Johannes,

If possible, could you please give me a test-case so I can also look over this on my end?

Additionally, some information as to why you would need this is also welcome.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,
Catalin

Re: Multiple shortcuts with same name and location

Hi Johannes,

Indeed your scenario is valid and so your requirement. Unfortunately we run the related validation (same shortcut name in the same shortcut folder location) due to Windows Installer validation rules. Also, I think we never thought to this scenario.

However we do have a workaround solution.

All you have to do is to create a child folder (for each of your sibling shortcuts) under your shortcut folder in "Files and Folders" page. Then right click on each child folder, choose "Properties" context menu option and use the "Install folder content into the parent folder" option.

Then all you need to do is to add a sibling shortcut in each of the above created child folders.

Let me know if this still does not work for you.

All the best,
Daniel
