MSIX "elevation" capability not being respected - Windows Store app

Traditional desktop app submitted to store as MSIX.

https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9MTQ8ZG3W4N5

The app package is created with the Elevation capability as it needs to run as administrator.

Has been working fine for all users until recently.

Now getting reports (and can replicate myself) that on Windows 11 24H2 when you click the apps icon the UAC prompt comes up for elevation but the app never launches. If instead you right click on app shortcut and do run as administrator, then the app launches correctly.

Any thoughts on this please? it did occur in the past for a handful of users on older versions of Windows 10 and 11, but since 11 24H2 seems to be affecting more users.

As I say I can replicate the issue on my own Windows 11 24H2 computer as well.

Any logs or tests I can run to diagnose cause or to provide you with more information, then please let me know.

See video here demonstrating the problem - https://app.screencast.com/Rkv2bfPL7iP5Y

Hello,

Unfortunately, I can not really say why this is happening as I wasn't able to find anything from Microsoft's side.

I have forwarded this to our dev team so it can be further investigated.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Best regards,

You are always welcome!

One thing I was wondering, if you have tried packaging with some other tools as well and whether the issue was reproducible there as well.

I'm asking this because I am wondering whether the issue is on our side or perhaps a more general issue.

No I have only ever used your tool for all my packaging needs so not tried with another tool, and can't really easily try to as app has to be submitted to the store etc

Re: MSIX "elevation" capability not being respected - Windows Store app

Apologies for asking yet again, but another two weeks has passed and no response on this and it is causing me to receive bad feedback on my app because users assume it is not working as they don't try to right click and run as admin....

Thank you very much, this would be appreciated as is affecting multiple customers all over the world now, so definitely an issue.

I am happy to provide a link to my app in the store (and a voucher code) so you can download it for free if you need to test with a store app which has this issue?

Please do, as we have tried to test today and weren't able to do so due to the app being paid version.

Forward the voucher code and the download link by email at support at advancedinstaller dot com.
