How i can use APPDIR property in Extended Search?
I want to obtain the file version from the directory that the user selects during the setup process

I want to retrieve the version of a file in the path chosen by the user (APPDIR) and display a message to the user before starting the installation.

I'm afraid that might not be possible, because both the installation folder (APPDIR) and the EXE file inside it do not exist at that point (before the installation is started).

Achieving what you want might be possible by also adding your EXE as a temporary file and then checking its' version using a custom action.

thank you for your answer. I want to use the setup as an update (without uninstalling) that just copies files and performs some checks on the old files. In this case, the old executable file exists inside the application directory.

Finally, I solved this problem by calling the DLL in Custom Action.
