"Unexpected error 1610"

"Unexpected error 1610"

I have a user who is having trouble installing an update to our software.
The error he gets is "Server returned unexpected error 1610 attempting to install package ..."

The sequence of event is (apparently) as follows:

He uninstalled his current version manually via Windows Uninstaller (this is not the normal practice - most users update via the AI updater).
He then downloaded and tried to install the new version, and got the error message above.
He then tried to install the older version again, and got an error saying a more recent version was already installed.

Any ideas?

Hi Matt,

The error 1610 is a standard and very generic error issued by Windows Installer.
It is hard to give a solution based on it.

In order to track your problem, please tell me after the described steps made by the user, what appears in Control Panel regarding the application? does any of the versions appear installed?

Also, please send us both .AIP files (first version and updater) and a [urlhttp://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-guide/qa-log.html]verbose log[/url] for each package, so that we can investigate more.
