Internal shortcut icons from file

Postby Morgy » Fri Dec 09, 2011 10:41 pm

Hi!
I just noticed, that the shortcut created on my desktop lost its icon, Because of this i saw that the icon files for shortcuts of installed files are stored in a windows installer folder (like: %SystemRoot%\Installer\{F6288C96-3E58-4D16-B8AF-969673AC2C49}\MIRAGE.exe). Because of one of my applications (probably TuneUp) this folder was deleted.
My question is: is it somehow possible to choose the icon for shortcut of installed files from an installed file, like at shortcuts for URL?
If not could you please add this option to your TODO list if its possible?

Thank you in advance

Hi,

I'm afraid this is not possible, nor is it present on our list of features. The shortcuts are created using the standard support offered by Windows Installer, i.e. using the MSI tables "Shortcut" and "Icon".

I recommend you modify the changes of your cleaner tool so that is does not deletes resources from "%SystemRoot%\Installer". This is not recommended by Microsoft, this is even why the folder is hidden all the time. Deleting resources from this location could also break patches or corrupt the installations so that you will be required the original setup package for performing standard operations like and upgrade, repair or modify.
