Hi, I found the file removal tool To remove a file with a patch you have to add in the new version of the MSI a "File removal" item. So you are on the right track. The file I am changing is not in the drop down for the component that triggers it, and editing the aip seems to not work. I am...

Hi, Yes, this is perfectly achievable with Advanced Installer. 1. You can register a COM+ in the COM page. Use the "New COM+" toolbar button to add a new COM+ to your project. For more information on this please visit: http://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-guide/com.html 2. You can add DLL...

Hi, Yes, you can achieve this kind of requirement using Advanced Installer. However, there could be an easer way. Why do you want to condition the installation based on an INI file? Under what conditions would the settings in the file change? Please detail the exact scenario that you have in mind so...

Hi Steve, The problem is that the inline script does not accept formatted strings. The way to access the APPDIR property is by using the Session object: set oShell=createObject("Wscript.shell"): oShell.run + session.property("APPDIR") + "WMEncoder /Q" Hope this helps. R...

Hi, This error is obtained when a custom action cannot be executed or it finishes with an error code. Did you change in any way the project, especially the way the custom action is set up? If not, please send the AIP file to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can examine it and identify the ...

Hi, You can achieve this with a single MSI package too. But since a package can get at install time only one folder path, you need a custom action to get the second path. For more details on this solution please visit: http://www.advancedinstaller.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=909 Hope this helps. Rega...

Hi Lee, You can only specify a default value for the Application Folder in the Install Parameters tab. The user can modify it in the "Select Location" MSI dialog. So, if you want the data files in user specified folder I would suggest placing them in the Application Folder. To place the pr...

Hi Duncan,

The digital certificate used for signing Advanced Installer's packages was purchased from Thawte:

http://www.thawte.com/

Maybe you can find a more suitable offer there. If not, you could search the Internet for other providers that have better offers.

Hi Johnny, To prevent a modified file from being reverted by a repair you need to set it's component "Never Overwrite" attribute. This way, if the file exists it is never installed or reinstalled. But I am afraid you cannot stop Windows Installer from restoring the file if it is missing. A...

Hi, The first thing you have to do is to purchase a digital certificate from a provider. They will give you two files: a .PVK and a .SPC, which are used in the signing process. You have to enter their location in the "Media" > "Digital Signature" page. For more information on thi...

Hi,

I am afraid that there is nothing Windows Installer can do to replace the cached icon.

However, this shouldn't be a problem on the end-user's machine. He/she will only have the last (correct) version of the icon in the Windows cache.

Mihai

Hi, Did you previously install the "original" version of the shortcut icon? If so, this is not a bug in Advanced Installer. Advanced Installer will install the correct, modified icon. The problem is that Windows caches icons so it will still display the old (last known) version of the icon...

Hi, If you have generated a new package simply by modifying the old one, here is a possible solution: http://www.advancedinstaller.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=958 However, as a general idea it is better to create a project from scratch, not modify another one, if you want to create a package for a ne...
