Hi Bruce,

There are about 600 lines (strings) of text to be translated. Most of them pretty short, under 10 words, with a few longer. The UTF-8 XML file for the Spanish or German translation stands at under 65K.

We did the Spanish translation in about 4 hours.

Thanks,
Cata

Can you translate MSI strings in other languages?

Hello everybody, Since the release the 3.0 version of our product, we support generating MSIs in various languages. We would like to offer as many translations as possible "out of the box". If you think that you have the ability (and interest) to translate the MSI strings into another lang...

In case someone else wants to know: you create a patch betwen the old new version (the one that last time was the Upgraded image and now is the Target image) and the new new version (which is the Upgraded image).

Multiple Targets can be added to an Upgraded as well.

In case somebody else has this issue: 1. The best way to change file is not by deleting and adding it again, but by going to its Properties dialog and changing its Source. 2. To remove a file, make sure first you are not using it somewhere else in your install: Custom Actions, UI, ODBC, Services, et...

Hi Phil, Just to make sure the Java Project issues are/will be fixed for other users as well, you don't need to use it if you're 100% happy with your current setup: (a) it created an exe but it didn't have our icon on it That is the case by default, but you can easily specify an icon in the Java Pro...

From the quoted error, I suppose "." is not accepted in target names by the Patch Tool. The solution would be to use only alphanumeric characters, as advised. Like "version11.aip". Also, I noticed that you are switching the Target and Upgraded versions of the product. Please foll...

Hi Phil, You should use a project of Java type. That will allow you to define "Java products" which are EXE files. On them you can specify Icons, Version strings, names, description, etc. Those files can also be used as Custom Actions during install, so your Java code can be called for ask...

Got it. Send us your list of controls that can be expanded that way and we'll change them in template.msi, if they don't affect the dialog size or other control's layout.

Thanks,
Cata

Good points. But then the dialogs would look pretty big and empty with small fonts, and short strings. :( On the other hand, since in certain languages the strings are longer, this system must also take i18n into consideration... So the right solution is to allow customization of dialogs, i18n depen...

Hi Chris,

Yes, you are right. The synchronized folders bug fix wasn't actually included in the 2.6.3 release.

Our mistake. We are building 2.6.4 right now to include the fix. It should be available online later today.

Best regards,
Cata

Indeed, the main problem here is that an Update does an Uninstall first, then an Install. Some work arounds this issue: 1. Use a Patch instead of an Update. This avoids the issue entirely, but it is not always appliable. 2. Modify the application so that the customizable Registry Values are created ...

The only way to do that is by a custom action. Windows Installer does not support attributes for folders, only for files.
