Can we update 64bit application on top of 32bit application?

Hi, present we are using 32bit application, Now we decided to move 64bit. In this created new project for 64bit and prepared 64bit setup file also. Now i want to update 64bit exe on top of 32bit exe. In this if we update manually its works fine but when we tried to update through auto update it shows error message that some of the updates files to install properly.
