Re: Should we use MSP patches or complete EXE (minor) update packs

Hi, if we take out the requirement with the small package size, is there any other advantage of MSP packages over full packages installed minor update? Because I think, package size is no issue anymore, as long as we don't deliver dozens of gigabyte in each package. Other question, is it somehow pos...

Re: Advanced Updater service is identified as a virus

Hi,

here a sample of the updater.exe scanned with VirusTotal, this was AI 14.5.1:
2018-09-07 10_55_46-VirusTotal.png
with 15.1 it looks like this:
2018-09-07 10_58_39-VirusTotal.png
Can you give a statement, why this happens?

Regards,

Roland

Re: Quick Patch Creation

Hi Catalin, thanks for your reply. Maybe my initial question was a bit unclear (or unsharp). A patch is a diff between two MSI packages, this is clear for me. I want to make the process of replacing a single file as easy and as quick as possible, because we want to ship some hotfixes this way to the...

Quick Patch Creation

Hi, Is there a quicker way of creating patches, when I just want to replace some files? I know that InstallShield has the option to create a quick patch based on an existing package. You can just provide some new binaries for specific components and you are able to create a msp out of it. Quick and ...

Re: Is Advanced Installer taking Customer Issues Serious?

Hi Daniel, I'm afraid this happens because you silently install the setup packages. During a silent installation Windows Installer automatically reboots the machine (if a reboot is required) after the installation ends. Unfortunately Windows Installer doesn't have support to prevent the silent reboo...

Re: Patch installation with AI Updater ends up with UAC Dialog *urgent*

Just a quick summary from me, what happened so far. After hours of testing different scenarios and comparing different MSIs and MSPs, it turns out, that a previously installed Advanced Installer hotfix is causing that issue. You can read this post for more details about that. To make it short, at th...

Re: Patch installation with AI Updater ends up with UAC Dialog *urgent*

Hi, some news here: First of all, we have used AI 12.8 for the setup. After hours of testing we found out, that the updater.exe is causing the issues as described above. Due to another issue (see here ) we replaced updater.exe following your recommendation by an intermediate version provided by you ...

Howto to update the updater?

Hi Advanced Installer Team, We are now using your updater mechanism to update installations on the customer side to a newer version of our product. Mainly we are using minor updates (aka patches) to update from on major or minor version to a later one. This happens a couple of times a year. Secondly...

Re: current context does not have a registered service of this type [edited]

Hi Dan, I changed the version number in the project and opened the patch project with an older version of AI (in this case 12.0). I could easily start to build the project, then it fails, because one of the MSI source files was missing. I fixed all the missing sources, then the project build fine. A...
