Change System Short Date Format at install

I have created an MSI that installs an application. However, for the application to run it requires that the system short date be set to MM/dd/yyyy format. By default Windows has this set to M/d/yyyy. This setting is located in the "Region and Language" applet in the control panel. How can...

Adding Files

AI Development team, I'd like to please request a few minor improvements to AI which I believe would make it more friendly to use. When in the Resources -> "Files and Folder" section and I am adding files via "Add Files": 1). When adding existing files, we are prompted with a &qu...

Merge Module Archive or Library?

Does anyone have a collection or library of Merge Modules (old & new)? I am looking for the old MSJET40SP6, DCOM95, and DAO36 merge modules specifically. They are very old and according to the site InstallSite.org they were created/available via InstallShield Professional/Developer back in the d...

Re: Install files to correct System folder?

@Sorin - Thank you very much! I've got the files in the correct place and have tested the install, however it's not working quite yet. It's an old app and uses MSJET 3.5 and MSJET 4.0 along with DAO35, etc. I wish I had the merge modules for MSJET40 and others, but have searched everywhere to find t...

Install files to correct System folder?

I have an old 32-bit application (created for Windows XP) that is installed via an old Wise setup EXE. I'm having to rebuild this into a new MSI setup using Advanced Installer. All I have is the files and where they go which I was able to obtain using UniExtractor. I can see that the old setup insta...

Re: Create MST for install?

@Daniel - thank you for the reply. Unfortunately these old EXE installs are Wise installs and the only command line parameters they offer are to extract all the files, install silently, etc. but I do not see anything that allows it to run with user UI selections. I don't want to re-build the entire ...

Create MST for install?

I have several very old EXE (Wise Installer) setups. These setups, prompt for quite a bit of user input when run. For example, "Backup existing files? - Yes/No", then make a selection of what needs to be installed, etc. I tried converting a setup EXE to an MSI and then wanted to create a M...

Re: Run a MSI with Transform (MST) during install?

Thank you Bogdan. I have done what you specified, but it does not seem to install the MSI with MST at all. 1). When I include the prerequisite, I'm choosing "New Package Prerequisite" and have to choose a file from my system (not an installed file). I select the MSI which I need to get ins...

Run a MSI with Transform (MST) during install?

Hello, I am creating a installer package where I do not want any user input (limited basic user interface). I need to install a prerequisite (which is an existing MSI), so I placed this in the Prerequisites section under "Pre-install". I have selected the "/qb" install command li...

Re: Service Account based on Property?

UPDATE: This worked ok on a WinXP, but when attempted on a Windows 2003 server, the setup ends with an error "The setup has ended prematurely". It's as if on a server OS, it could not update the service account username/password. I'm currently using AI v9.6, not sure if this is a bug that ...

Service Account based on Property?

Hello, I have a setup in where I created a custom dialog, after the welcome screen, asking the user to select the environment where my application will be installed. This is either TEST, SYST, or PROD. The selected value is stored in a property which I use to populate a value in a XML configuration ...

Re: UAC and Permissions

Thanks again Mihai.
This is automatically performed if you enable "Run as administrator" option from Install Parameters page.
I did not have this checked in my setup. I went ahead and checked it, so hopefully this will help out in the future!

Best Regards,

Frank

Re: AI install will not upgrade over older version

Thank you Daniel. I went ahead and regenerated a new Product Code and rebuilt the setup. It installed perfectly over the older version by removing it first and then installing the new version as it's supposed to. Not sure why it stopped working on me before, but perhaps I wasn't thinking the last fe...

Re: UAC and Permissions

Thank you for the prompt reply Mihai. I went ahead and ran the setup (exe) as an Administrator via the right click -> 'Run As Administrator' and it installed fine. I also re-coded my application to use the CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA folder so that it stores all program settings, logs, etc. in an appropria...
