Search the 64-bit portion of the registry clarification

Hi AI

I have read the User’s Guide for search page
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-guide/search.html
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-g ... rties.html

and have read this topic in the forum
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/forums ... f=2&t=9838

I understand when I’m WORKING on the install program, and do a search of the registry that I can't find/see items in the 64-bit of the registry, because Advanced Installer is a 32 bit program.

Please clarify when "Search the 64-bit portion of the registry" should be checked.

Currently everything is compiled as 32 bit, Package Type is set to 32-bit package.
We install on both 32 and 64 bit operating machines.
The install programs are created on a 64 bit, Windows 7, machine i.e. when working with Advanced Installer we are on 64 bit.

When creating a registry search I should NOT check the "Search the 64-bit portion of the registry," because we have a 32-bit package, and if we had a 64-bit package we WOULD check "Search the 64-bit portion of the registry" is that correct?

If the package type was 32/64 mixed should we check, "Search the 64-bit portion of the registry"?

Thanks
Bob

Re: Search the 64-bit portion of the registry clarification

Hi Bob,

Please keep in mind that by default the registries searches use 32-bit locations no matter what package type your application has and no matter on what operating system (32-bit or 64-bit) your application runs.
You should check "Search the 64-bit portion of the registry" option only if you want to search in the 64-bit portion of the registry when your application runs on a 64-bit machine, no matter what package type your application has. If your application runs on a 32-bit machine and you are using this option for a registry search, then this flag will be ignored.

If you have any questions let me know.

Daniel
