how to avoid "Unknown Publisher" when the install

When I install my product it always gives me a security warning saying that the publisher could not be verified (unknown publisher). Is there a way around this so I don't spook the person installing it?

Hi,

This warning is displayed when a package is not digitally signed. So you need to sign your packages in order for Windows to be able to verify their authenticity.

Unknown Publisher continued....

So How do you digitally sign your package? Can you show me the steps?

Hi,

The first thing you have to do is to purchase a digital certificate from a provider.

They will give you two files: a .PVK and a .SPC, which are used in the signing process. You have to enter their location in the "Media" > "Digital Signature" page. For more information on this, please visit:

Please tell me if you encounter any problems.

So I have digital signature set up "Enable signing" checked and "Use from certificate store". I don't see any errors when building, but when I go to install I still see the publisher unverified dialog and have to accept it.

Hello,

Did you buy a certificate from a vendor or have you created a test one on your computer?

If your setup is indeed signed, you shouldn't receive such an error.

Digital Signatures and Certificates
