Download progress in Web Based Install

I am trying to build a web based install that will download a very large file (~2gb). My problem is that the installer doesn't appear to be displaying any sort of progress for the download. Is this normal? And if it is normal, then is there any way that I can show the progress of the download to the user?

Please follow the show progress while bootstrapper downloads main MSI thread which debates this issue.
