Clarification : Windows 98

I currently only have Windows XP installed on my systems here so I am not able to test it on a Windows 98. I understand that even if I use the EXE Bootstrap Installer for Advanced Installer, the client still needs Windows Installer 2.0 installed before any installation can work.

What happens if someone with the generic Windows 98 tries to run an EXE bootstrap version of the compiled Advanced Installer installer ? Would it just not work or would it download the necessary Windows Installer 2.0 automatically or what would happen ?

Was there a Windows 98 patch which address this issue ?

Thanks.

Hi,

If Windows Installer is not present on the target machine and it is not added as a Prerequisite to your package, the setup process will fail.

If, however, Windows Installer is added as a Prerequisite to your package (using the Media page), then you may specify its location:
a) A file from your package.
b) An URL from where the Prerequisite will be downloaded automatically.
c) An Open Site from where the user may download and install the Prerequisite.

Therefore, the behaviour will vary depending on the above scenarios.
