Multiple media options per install

I would like to have the ability to make different media configurations per install.

For example, I have an install that make a version for CD distribution and one for web. These installs are the same basic install expect that I have to change the media options to get what I need for each.

It ...

Here's how....

You need to go to Product Details page then increase the Product Version. After you leave the box it will ask if you want to create a new GUID, select yes.

Now it will work as you want.

I was able to handle this by writing an application that performs this exact operation. Then I call my custom app as a custom action.

The other way (although not recommended) would be to flag those files as (do not remove), then also flag them as never overwrite. that way the would not be removed ...

To specify which feature that the merge module needs to be installed for, add the merge module to the install then right-click on it. Select configure. You will then have the ability to change the feature that it is related to as well as the default install path.

Hope that helps.

I am thinking something similar. Although AI says that this is not part of the Windows Installer I know that other installers do this very thing (all Installshield products for one). I will write some information to the registry then when the user goes to perform an upgrade, I will read the ...

Mike,

While I agree that sometimes the license agreement may change it is really a pain for an administrator who has my product installed on many systems in his department to remember how they configured each one. More often, they simply want to install the same configuration (path and options) as ...

Mike,

Thank you. I found the issue. I had checked the Quiet option for the prerequisites. That is why I did not see the message that you were referring to.

Are there any plans to allow the developer to change the default path? I would like to change it to a temp folder, then have no user ...

I must be missing something here. The only time you get the Browse option is when you select the "File in package" option, which is not what I am doing. To reduce the size of the install I am using a URL for the download location.

How do I make AI understand where I want that file put when it ...

Prerequisites

Is there someway to change the place where the prerequisites are downloaded to?

For example: I have a single file installer that someone will download from the Internet. Say they save the file to the desktop, then they click to install it. I have created a prerequisite for Product X and have ...

Upgrade -features

When performing an upgrade of an existing product, how do I tell AI to install the same features into the same places that the user selected before? ISE does this without a problem so I suspect AI does it as well.

Also, is there anyway during these upgrades to not have the license and other screens ...
