Prerequisites

Is there someway to change the place where the prerequisites are downloaded to?

For example: I have a single file installer that someone will download from the Internet. Say they save the file to the desktop, then they click to install it. I have created a prerequisite for Product X and have included a URL in the installer to download the Product X install when needed. Everything works great except AI will download the Product X install and place it in the same folder. Which creates a mess on the desktop. Also, I am not sure how it works when the media is read only (like a CD).

Any ideas?

Hi,

Yes there is a way to change the location where the prerequisites are installed.

Starting with the 3.4 version the user has the ability to specify this location. He/she can use the "Browse" button in the second dialog of the Prerequisites wizard.

I must be missing something here. The only time you get the Browse option is when you select the "File in package" option, which is not what I am doing. To reduce the size of the install I am using a URL for the download location.

How do I make AI understand where I want that file put when it downloads it?

Hi,

This option cannot be set when building the package. However, when you install it, the user can change the download location in the second screen, if he/she wishes to do so.

By default the download location will be the folder where the MSI is located.

Mike,

Thank you. I found the issue. I had checked the Quiet option for the prerequisites. That is why I did not see the message that you were referring to.

Are there any plans to allow the developer to change the default path? I would like to change it to a temp folder, then have no user interaction. My belief is the user has to do the better off I am.
