Hangs when signing on Windows 7

Advanced Installer Version 9.8 is hanging for me when it tries to sign an .exe

It prompts for the password then just hangs and becomes totally unresponsive.

Here's the only output I see....

and that's it.

I have just obtained a new certificate but have tried both the .p12 and .pfx files (which I'm aware are the same under the hood) and I'm also sure the password is correct.

Tech support, can you please respond, even if just tell me where to look to see what's going on. Log files anywhere?

Hello,

I'm not sure why this happens. Can you please try to manually sign the related EXE file using "Signtool.exe" and see if it is successfully signed?

Also, in Advanced Installer please go to "File menu -> Options -> External Tools" and make sure the "Use an external tool" option is checked and a valid Signtool.exe path is filled in.

If this is of no help to you, please send us your .aip (project file) to support at advancedinstaller dot com so we can test and investigate its settings.

We have had trouble with the internal AI sign tool taking an extremely long time to complete. We obtained an external version of SignTool.exe and changed the external tools setting to point to it instead.

Thanks guys, changing to an external SignTool.exe worked. There must have been something about the new certificate that the internal sign tool didn't like.

Anyhow fixed now by changing to an external SignTool.exe as per your suggestion.

Update: on windows 10 - there was a Windows alert dialogue asking me for permission to access a crypto key; it didn't gain focus, i eventually noticed the dialogue flashing in the task bar.. Allowed permisison & then everything was fine after that.
